IO2655 Photonics: General Info

Course responsible: Prof. Bozena Jaskorzynska

Photonics is a fast growing field of research and a major enabling technology playing an increasingly central role in our high-tech society. It offers a broad variety of applications in the area of information technology, life science, optical sensing, lightning, energy, and manufacturing.

The course will focus on the photonic components and technology for optical communications, and will include: physics of light generation, amplification, transmission, and detection, selected device concepts, and optoelectronic integration techniques.

To provide the students with both in-depth knowledge and an overview of the recent progress and challenges, rather than having a single lecturer, there will be several lecturers who have special expertise in the subjects they will present.
